Alexander the Great - Runner!

by Kids of Steel
Alexander began running at the age of 3, and he ran his first 5K at the age of 5. He is an avid runner, often found weekly with the Steel City Road Runners, and since his first race at the Brentwood 5K, he has run at least 20 5K’s, and this year, Alex ran the Great Race 10K for the first time. Recently, Alexander finished 3rd in his age group at the 2017 GNC Liberty Mile, and he also has a number of first place finishes in his age group at local races.

Like many children in the area, Alexander began running through the kids races at the Great Race and Pittsburgh Marathon. When he ran his first Junior Great Race, Alex asked his mother when she was going to run the Great Race 5K. As such, Alex and his mother have been running together ever since. Who is faster is still up for debate.

In addition to running, animals are another passion for Alexander, who lives with his cats, Ella and Gustav. Considering that both of the family cats were adopted, and inspired by his mother, who has volunteered in a number of capacities for Humane Animal Rescue (formerly Western Pennsylvania Humane Society), Alexander decided it was a natural fit to run to benefit Humane Animal Rescue as part of the Pittsburgh Kids Marathon. This will be Alex’s third year running for the Humane Animal Rescue in the Kids Marathon.
