P3R Junior Running CampPowered by Kids of STEEL and Steel City Road Runners

P3R Junior Running Camp is the perfect place for your child to learn about running and have fun at the same time. 

Our twice a week, 5-week camp is geared toward kids entering grades 1-6 for the 2017-18 school year. During the 2½ hours we’re together, our coaches will teach running form, pacing and technique, but we also want to have fun. We’ll encourage team building, try healthy snacks, and play games that will have your child laughing until you pick them up from camp!

Registration

  • Online registration will open on February 1, 2017. Registration closes on June 19, 2017 at 5:00 PM.
  • Camp fees at South Park are $125 per child.
  • Camp fees at North Park are $112 per child.
  • Our coaches will provide water and a healthy snack at each session.
  • Each camper will receive a Commemorative Junior Running Camp shirt and a free entry for the GNC Live Well Liberty Mile race on Friday, July 28, 2017.

2017 Camp Locations

South Park
Mondays/Wednesdays from 9:00-11:30 AM (Monday, June 26 - Wednesday, July 26). Campers will be dropped off and picked up at the South Park Oval/Fairgrounds Building.

North Park
Tuesdays/Thursdays from 9:00-11:30 AM (Tuesday, June 27 - Thursday, July 27, NO CAMP TUESDAY, JULY 4). Campers will be dropped off and picked up at the North Park Ice Skating Rink.

Boyce Park
Mondays/Wednesdays from 9:00-11:30 AM (Monday, June 26 - Wednesday, July 26). Campers will be dropped off and picked up at the Boyce Park Ski Lodge.

Camp Coaches

Our Camp Coaches and volunteers are avid runners and ready to teach your child about running based on age and ability level.
  • Dave and Keri Spell are our coaches at South Park. Coach Dave is the Head Coach of the Steel City Road Runners, RRCA Level I Certified Coach, and Kids of STEEL Coach.  Dave and Keri are teachers and are parents of two daughters, ages 9 and 11. They enjoy bringing their passion for teaching and running together to encourage young runners to live an active lifestyle. 
  • Betsy Magovern is our coach at North Park. She has been with the North Park camp since the beginning and has been running for fun and exercise since college. Helping to pace races and advising other runners to meet their goals is one of her favorite reasons to run. She received her RRCA coaching certification in June 2015. 
  • Stu Jones is our Coach at North Park. Stu is P3R's Youth Outreach Coordinator, Project R.U.N. coach and was an All-American track athlete at Wheeling Jesuit University. Stu is a USA Track and Field Level 1 Coach. He continues to run and compete at national club level events.
  • Nick Fischer, RD, LDN, is our Coach at North Park. Nick is P3R's Event and Program Dietitian and a coach/nutrition consultant with USA Cycling. He continues to compete in endurance cycling events.
