Run 1-2-3 Challenge Series

Get Ready, Get Set...

A new, exciting challenge is coming to our Kids of STEEL!

Get ready Kids of STEEL! We are launching a new, exciting challenge that's fun, goal oriented, and rewarding - the Run 1-2-3 Challenge Series!

The Run 1-2-3 Challenge Series is designed to help kids build the confidence and stamina to run further distances (and have fun while doing it!). As part of the challenge, kids will complete a 1 mile, 2 mile, and 3 mile race over a 1-year period. It is a HUGE accomplishment to go from a 1 mile race to a 3 mile race in just 12 months!

Once children have completed the series, they will receive a commorative medal.


  • 1 mile - Kids Marathon (May 6, 2017) or GNC Live Well Liberty Mile (July 28, 2017). NOTE: This year you have 2 races to choose from to count as Mile 1 - including the recent 2017 Kids Marathon! If your child has already completed the 2017 Kids Marathon or 2017 Liberty Mile, he or she is 1/3 of the way done!
  • 2 miles - PIT FlyBy 2.2 Mile Run/Walk as part of the PIT FlyBy5K (September 30, 2017)
  • 3 miles - UPMC Health Plan/UPMC Sports Medicine Pittsburgh 5K Run (May 5, 2018)
Only the races listed above count for the RUN 1-2-3 CHALLENGE. Other races cannot be substituted for these races. Thank you!

Run 1-2-3 is a great way for kids (and parents!) to stay motivated, active, and healthy throughout the year. Each child is required to have at least one parent participate with them in each event. To enroll your child for the challenge and receive reminders, please register below.
